The dimension "A" indicated in the illustrations shown below, represent the actual "TEARSEAL" height of the rule with respect to the standard referenced rule sealing height of .928". This TEARSEAL height dimension is identified by the suffix letter (A,B,C,D,E,F, etc.) indicated as part of the item stock number. The dimension "B"is constant for all rule of this type at .004" lower than the overall TEARSEAL height. This edge of the rule is referred to as the "control gate" and is positioned so as to be on the "outside" edge of the sealing die. ![]() |

The machine set-up for a "feather-edge" die is normally no different than for any other type sealing die, except for the requirement of having a die with closer tolerances with respect to "flatness." In some instances, it may be desirable to utilize a lower sealing fixture as shown in Fig. 1. This set-up method offers the opportunity for "equalizing" seal stress on both sides of the welded part. Fig. 2, illustrates the relative position of the materials to be welded with respect to the upper die and lower fixture. A support of some type (omitted from the illustration) should be used beneath the materials to be welded to assure proper positioning with respect to elevation within the lower fixture.
